Case study · Migration
From Versata to
:
without rewriting a thing.
Industrial distribution · Oracle database · Migration from Espresso Logic / LAC
Locked into Versata
The company had spent years running a management platform built on Versata (CA Live API Creator / Espresso Logic). At the time it was the right decision. The problem came later:
- ✗
Versata expired. Active support wound down and the ecosystem froze.
- ✗
The licence cost did not go down. Maintaining an obsolete platform on paid support kept generating invoices.
- ✗
Technical debt grew. Every adaptation had less room to manoeuvre.
- ✗
The Oracle database was still the real asset, with decades of data, logic in stored procedures and consolidated schemas. Migrating the database was not an option.
The migration that is not a rewrite
e-cometa + ApiLogicServer (ALS) is the natural destination stack for those coming from Versata. The paradigm is the same, an automatic REST API over a relational database and a frontend built from metadata, but implemented on modern technology: ALS is open source and e-cometa will be soon.
Analysis of the existing Oracle schema, without touching data or structure.
ALS deployed over the database, generating a compatible REST API with no endpoints to write.
Configuration: the screen and process metadata is defined or migrated in e-cometa.
Validation in parallel, with both systems running at the same time.
Cutover: the Versata system is switched off and e-cometa becomes the main system.
What did not have to be rewritten
- ✗ The Oracle database
- ✗ The logic in stored procedures
- ✗ The historical data
What did change
- ✓ The API server (Versata → ALS)
- ✓ The frontend (Versata interface → e-cometa)
A modern stack, with the licence cost gone
Versata licence
Gone
Dependence on a vendor that expired
Gone
Hot deployment in production
Available
Access to the source code
No black box — open source, coming soon
Oracle database
Untouched — zero migration
How it was tackled
In phases, with both systems side by side
Are you in a similar position?
If you have Versata, Espresso Logic or CA Live API Creator and you are looking for a way out, the shortest path is not rewriting from scratch. It is replacing the engine with a compatible one. We assess your case with no commitment.
